Cairo at night, picture by Maurice Ruckman
Luxor Temple

The Fall of Akhenaten has always been intended as a sequel to the first story. The  first story is JACK's story here in the states and how he met JOHN. Then the second story is JOHN's story.

In RISING, John is the fish out of water, being that he has become so accustomed to things in Egypt. He helps Jack solve the murders, and then returns home. For this story, Jack is the fish out of water,  who provides support. John is immersed in an Egyptian puzzle, and his obsessions gets the best of him. Jack, even though not worldly, does help John find the answers and also acts as a voice of reason.

Cairo, at night provides a wonderful backdrop as a fairly modern city with all the corruption and fun that any other city has to offer.

I had never really heard of a sequel that had a COMPLETELY different style. This was intended to be a modern day Lawrence of Arabia.

I went to Egypt in 1996 to visit all the sites I intended to write about.  I was even ejected from KARNAK TEMPLE in LUXOR for going into closed sections. I rode camels and talked to Bedouins.

LUXOR TEMPLE is a MUSLIM temple still in service. Many people go to and from this place everyday. It serves as an action setting in the third act.
