In November 1943, the Allies have begun their ascent North into Italy. Hitler, fearing the worst, has begun to put into active service all experimental aircraft and weapons. The Daedalus project is one such weapon. Captain Burke and his B-17 (the Lucky Rita) crew are sent to dispatch the project on the German border near Switzerland in a secret mission. The crew are complimented by a new side gunner from the O.S.S. named Schmidt who speaks fluent German. They have a trial by fire as the German's send Messerschmitt's to defend their border. The B-17 Lucky Rita manages to get near the target when they are shot down by the mysterious jet plane Daedalus. Once on the ground, the survisors rally with Captain Burke and start to head towards the Swiss border when they happen upon resistance fighters from northern Italy and Austria. Captain Burke and the crew see the airfield that they were to have destroyed as well as the Daedalus jet itself. A plan is hatched to either destroy it or steal it. The band of make shift soldiers being observing the base and the troop deployments, as well as any info on the plane. Burke and Schmidt go into the base undercover to assess what they can while the rest get aboard the plane and await the next phase of the plan. Burke meets eye to eye with the German pilot (Gunther) who shot him down. They make a daring escape only to discover there are two experimental jets, the second is ICARUS and pursues them through the mountains in a dog fight bewteen Burke and Gunther. Burke is successful and they return to base. |
